One thing that I have noticed while doing this tool operation, the growth of the shape is inverted to mouse movement.
E.g.
Pulling out the shape (away from the face I am snapping to) pushes the shape inwards and is buried in the face.
Pushing the shape in pulls it outwards in growth away from the face.

Try this and see if it's better

I understand now, after the first border is dragged out, I needed to select the face I wanted to drag out and then I could make the adjustments otherwise the input panel would not respond correctly.
It's a bit of tricky one (compared to created a box on it's own without any alignment), but it does work out.

Try this

This works great, the scene hierarchy now defaults to expanded/open mode.

Thank you  :)

During the quickstart tutorial:

After the box is created, you can see how the hierarchy is defaulted to collapsed mode, requiring clicking the small '+' button to expand the hierarchy.

1. Open Box tool and LMB click and drag out the bottom of the box.
2. Release LMB and move cursor to drag out the height of the box.
3. LMB click to finish the height adjusting.
4. Move cursor over and LMB click the top of the box to select the top section of the box.
5. Use manipulator to adjust the height. Or you can use input value for precise control.
6. Exit Box tool.

I’m not sure what action you were referring to at that timestamp.
Are you able to list steps?

I have watched over that section a few times but can’t see how it could help my issue.
