I had set the Pivot position to Object. Orientation remains world. Then i wanted to move the object upwards. I couldn`t. I was still able to move it sidewards. But when i dragged upwards then the object jumped to zero in Y direction. I had to switch back to Pivot Position World.

This hiccup was repeatable until i posted here, heh. Now it works fine again. And i know that what is not repeatable cannot be fixed. I nevertheless post it here. Maybe somebody else stumbles across this too. I will have an eye at it too if i can repeat it.

Hi Tiles,
I see a similar problem if I have "Pivot Position-> Selection" with Grid snapping active. When moving using manipulator in the "Y" the pivot tends to snap to grid and will not always allow Y movement, it can be a case of my having to rotate the view.
When I have "Pivot Position-> Object", the manipulator does not snap (when enabled) correctly to grid.

So I would first ask, is grid snapping enabled? (which may be causing the issue)

Yes it was. I`m feeling stupid now. Thanks Steve :)

What makes me wonder is that i have pulled very strong, but it didn`t unsnap. I had a closer look, and when i go a bit further, so around 3 in offset, then it finally unsnaps, and i can move the box away.

Makes me suggest to fine tune the snap distance a bit :)

Hi Tiles,

I do think there is a bug in there, as I would expect the same problem with "Pivot Position-> Object" and "Pivot Position-> Selection" as the manipulator does move with the object in both cases.

Another problem that arises from that, is when attempting to move the object and the grid snapping prevents it, the on-screen readout for incremental movement made appears to calculate movement made by cursor, rather than movement by the object/manipulator, so gives incorrect readout.

Maybe IStonia will take a look to see what is happening?

As it is, I tend to leave Grid snapping disabled and use the "Steppings" for movement snap.

Not sure what the problem is. A vid may help.

Here`s a short video, 2.1 mb. The problematic part is that the snapping to ground plane does not snap, but trap the mesh.

Hi Tiles,

It is the snapping to plane that is stopping the movement in "Y".

nVil performs projection snapping, so in your example, when Plane snapping is enabled (the "Plane" is the current "workPlane"), the projection snap (due to your current view angle) will always see the plane and snap the object pivot to it.

For you to check, while in the view you show in the vid, enable custom workplane (Edit-> Workplane-> Visible), the "Plane" snapping will then be to the custom Plane.

Hi IStonia,

Not sure what the problem is.

For me, it was just the case I could not understand why the snapping (when moving an object)only works for that object while in "Pivot Position-> Selection" or "Pivot Position-> Manual". But going back to early builds it appears to of always been like that. Something I had not noticed before.

Ah, a feature. Thanks. We will surely see more complaints about this feature in the future, heh. It`s a bit irritating :)

Hi Tiles,

For Grid and Plane snapping it can cause issue. But, for example, if you where moving an object up in "Y" and wanted it to stop/snap at the same hight as a distant object that is along the "X" or "Z", you can limit the movement to "Y", but can snap to that object.

Sure it is of use. That`s not what i doubt. But it`s also an excellent user trap :)
