I found the command to toggle the manipulator on and off.

When I turn it off it leaves this little manipulator icon (see attached image)

I cannot seem to find a command to hide that also. Anybody know what it is ?

I want to compose a composite tool with a keyboard shortcut to toggle both the manipulator & the icon on and off.

View > Display > Pivot Visible In Selection Mode.
Manipulation > Set Manipulator Type > Selection Mode.

I didn't have this checked and still displays.

Manipulation > Set Manipulator Type > Selection Mode.

Thanks, that turns it off but unfortunately that doesn't help, as it moves me into selection mode. I wanted to stay in the Move or scale tool and just toggle the manipulator and its widget off and on while I select additional vertices that are behind the manipulator.

That's the one !

I was trying to use "Modelling Options >> Manipulator Hidden and R_Turn On Move/Rotate/Scale_Manipulator Disabled$" which leaves the widget behind.

I don't think I would of figured out that selection mode relates to the manipulator, so many thanks.
