IStonia, when you have some time, could you please make a variation of View Navigation Tools -> Align Along Subobject Normal tool that would work without the requirement of having a subobject preselected/selected, would ignore frozen flag (=allow for aligning to components of frozen objects) and would be selection mode independent (vertices/edges/faces/objects).

This would help in moving around the reference mesh during retopologization very quickly. 3D Coat has this feature and I use it a lot.

Send ray from the cursor
If ray hits a face, read normal vector of the face and align the view to it
If none of the faces have been hit, do nothing

A possible redirect could allow for aligning to components of frozen objects only, ignoring unfrozen ones.
