I noticed that NVil uses US keyboard layout. I am german, and have big problems to find some of the hotkeys that way. I still search for the high comma, the " ` " . Nvil displays my " ` " key as one of the code brackets: " ] " . And of course the hotkey doesn`t work then.

Is there a way to let NVil use the german keyboard layout?

I would see what I can do. Can you show me your whole german keyboard in a picture?
Btw, is this the main reason why you don't like using hotkeys?

Thanks :)

That`s not really the reason. The main reason why i dislike too much hotkeys is that i use so much software that my head would explode when i would totally rely at hotkeys. A menu driven UI is a gods gift then :)

I would have attached an image of a german keyboard. But it seems that your forum isn`t really happy with attachments yet. I tried a 160 kb image, and got a warning. Then i made the image smaller. And wasn`t longer able to post the thread at all.

So i add a link instead. Hope that helps :)

Mh, isn`t the keyboard layout part of unicode?

I see. So hotkeys can be a heavy burden if you use tons of software and they don't have similar hotkey settings. There are some tools only available in streamline tools and you can use radial menu to activate streamline tools instead of hotkeys.

I will add a feature which allows you to specify the mapings between the key chart and the physical keyboard.

just edited your post to have the picture display in the post with the [img] tag.

ya sorry about the small amount of storage, for attachments, i just left it at that which is the forums system default, since i rather encourage people to use things dropbox or there file hosting sites as opposed to the web server, since i only got a few gb left and i host multiple sites.

Thank you both :)

A mapping feature is a great idea :)

@Passerby. I can understand that you want to limit your traffic and disk space. But 128kb is really tiny. I don`t think that rising it to 200kb would harm your space this much. On the other hand, this few more kb would allow to post images in a more common standard format. A usual jpeg is between 100 and 200 kb :)

Looks good. But i ran into a problem. I cannot remove keymappings for specific keys. And so i end in being trapped with minimum one key here. I don`t have the key that is shown in the shot. And when i remap the corresponding letter then i get two keys mapped with this letter. Plus a warning that doesn`t let me proceed.

Try click the "\" button then click the "Clear" button in the dialog. That should assign that button to nothing.

It seems your "[" button and the funny "B" button are mapped to the same key. That is not allowed.

That does the trick, thanks :)

That`s maybe also worth a note in the text below the keyboard i would say :)

I ran into another small problem. May be a handling problem at my end. When i clear the field and press the key to assign the new key then sometimes nothing happens. I cannot click Ok, because the field is empty. A second keypressing inserts two letters then instead just one. I need to remove the second letter by hand.

But besides that the feature works as thougth. And that`s the most important thing. The Smart tips shows the new keys, and they are functional.

Many thanks for this feature :)

I have this "remap/clear" in the text already.

Not quite sure what you described. Do you mean sometimes you can't input the key name at the first keyboard click, and then when you try it the second time two letters appeared instead of one?

I move the mouse over a key. I click the key at the keyboard. The dialogue pops up. I select the letter in the edit box and remove it. Then i hit the key to insert the letter. Nothing happens. Then i hit the key again, and get two letters. See screenshot.

For the description, it was not this clear to me. Now that i know how it is meant it makes sense.

Hm, i would simply separate the explanation how to clear a button from the explanation how to map a button. It`s a bit mixed at the moment :)

Mh, while at it, when i map a button then i cannot clear it. The clear button in the dialogue does nothing then. Maybe that was what confused me.
