Does registering the demo activates the export format?
a person at another forum recommended I look at this software before I purchase Silo.
I was looking for something with a user-friendly interface that I can do modeling with.(clothing mostly).
I was wondering, how are the exporters?
I would like to see everything that comes with the software, before I purchase.
So far I like what I see. But, I run across something that got me curious.:



Now I got to try out these goodies.
It just keeps getting better and better.

The register demo won't do anything. The program is currently free. You can copy the free registration key
SSTUAPFADFDADNDNRFAQYFSSOYRTTQMNIFI
and goto Help > Register Product.

The main export/import way is, File > New Scene/Save Scene etc. obj and dae formats are supported. You don't have to register for this funtion to work. There are also some other formats export/import support are available in object library.

The 'Export To External File Form' is used to export models to a file that only this program can read. I wouldn't recommend you to use it. Animation is no longer available.

I have it registered now. Thank you very much.

I actually like the idea that it is just a modeler. More tools, and the learning curve gets bigger.

I think I see how this works now with importing /exporting.
I'm having a small problem with importing. I hope it's a small problem.

When I import a figure that I exported from Poser, I get this error:



I used the figure as a Manican for modeling clothes.
I know the object is fine. Because I imported it into two other programs.
I believe it's the scale. Poser figures are very small in scale.

Here is a screenshot of the skirt I was working on for a Poser figure:



As you can see, it is very small. I have it zoomed-in as far as I can.

I was wondering, is there a way. I can change the scale on import. And then change it back on export?

For the scale problem, there are two ways to solve it.
-You can change the scene scale, View > Floor Settings(Scene Scale).
-Or set the import/export scale setting. Edit > Options > File Format Options.

I think I may have found the problem. It turns out I had graphic card going bad. I won't know for sure until the new one comes in.

I did manage to import the skirt. At a 10,000 import scale.
The first time I did it, it came in perfectly. After that, it started freezing up.
Here is a screenshot of the first time:

at this point things start looking familiar. Two days later, the graphics went out.

As soon as I get a new graphics card, I'll try again.

PS. This application wouldn't happen to work in Windows XP professional, 64-bit edition- Would it?

The program should work in xp 64-bit. Hopefully it is the graphic card fault. If you can create a primitive and model from it without problem it means it's likely the problem lies in the imported file.

Okay, I believe I've got it now.



I don't think it was because of the bad video card.
I think I was doing something wrong on the export. When I was turning off the kinematics,
it was switching to Hip. I was switching it back to the figures name.
I left it go, and that seemed to have done the trick.

As far as it freezing up, and the little anomalies. That, I believe was the bad graphics card.
So far, everything has been running good on this machine.

PS. Sorry about going off subject. I'll start A new thread from now on.

I just tried that, and Nvil complained it could not connect to the Internet/server.

I hope this program does not become (when paid for) a program that requires Internet access to work. I do not allow my main computers Internet access.

That would still mean my having to let at least one of my main computer connect to the Internet. I stated I do not allow that. For me to allow that I would need to set up windows firewall or install a 3rd party firewall and set that up, also a need to install an AV/AM application and allow that to update, all the scanning/checks etc after Internet connection, then having to remove all that bloat-ware (files/reg entries) from an already bloated OS is just too much a pain.

If you think having such a measure stops pirated versions, think again, it does not. It only bugs users who pay for the software.

It makes no difference as to what security you place, be it online registration, dongle, bindings to hardware etc, it is security that will be broken. There are many that break security as an hobby(not for profit) and they do it very well.
People are people, they will either pay for a program or they will not. You are even at a stage now with the program where it is very usable and probably very close to release (albeit some clean up needed). It would be very easy, even with a full release with security in place for the user to simply use the previously free versions.
Personally I would just have offline registration. A good program, such as Nvil is, will get support from the users with a license purchase, from those who can afford it.

not to be a dick, but i wouldn't look into it too much, there are going to be very very few users, why cant or dont want to do the one time Internet connection for the apps reregistration. and you already kinda confirmed that they must of a Internet connection since they would have payed via the internet and downloaded the app from the Internet in the first place.

just seems like a lot of work to completely change the system for what would effect very few users.

My Internet facing PC runs Linux.

There is of course also the prospect of the vendor deciding to no longer sell/support the application at some later date. That would then take the registration server off-line, making registration impossible after a re-installation.

Of course, whatever IStonia decides to do, is what will be done.
 
No problem, I purchase or not, simple.
