I opened a .dae file that I had saved from Nvil. I made some geometry edit and scene management by renaming all the objects in scene. I saved as new_named .dae file.
I found a little later that all the names in the newly saved .dae had not been changed.
What a complete pain.

So, tested more.
Long story short:- Found that if I open a .dae, and want to change the names of objects, then save as a .dae with the object names changed. I need to
open .dae
rename objects
Save a vws
Close nvil
Open Nvil
Open saved vws
save as .dae

----------------------------------
To add.
Polygon groups are not being retained between saving a .dae and loading that .dae back into Nvil.

Try this

There is no definite object name field in dae file. I just use root node name for this purpose.

Also check the "Edge-Extend" tool.

Blender uses the same (with geometry id/name below it). I see you are exporting mesh names as geometry id/name, which is working well with Blender.
Now editing names appears to be working. Thanks.

Excellent, now working.

Many Thanks.
