In Maya there is this feature called Snap Magnets. In the preferences, you can set up how many evenly spaced snap magnets should occur on a single edge. I'd like to also have this in NVil for the slide and cut&slide tools. It should take the snapping tolerance into account, and maybe only apply if steppings are enabled, so one can temporarily activate/deactivate it.
This is similar to the proportional loop insert with "use input position" enabled, but it works more like snapping and in steps instead of a fixed value.
For the slide without cut the magnets should be on either side of the selected components, while also keeping the original position as a magnet.

This sounds really nice, certainly if the snap-points could be visualised on the edge!

So I think NVil isn't up to par with its cut & slide abilites, because it lacks stepping or snapping.
Stepping is already available in some tools, like inset.

For loopcut there's the proportional option with input, but it isn't quite enough, because it's less flexible. So instead of inserting the loop at the fixed .25 position, for example, it should insert it at every nth .25 position (so there would be 3 possible positions for that value, not counting 0 & 1).

As videos can show off more than I can explain with words, here they are:
