Anyone else seeing a crash on startup after installing the Windows Creator update? It's going out to everyone on the 11th, but I pulled it down a bit early and I'm paying the price apparently. I get a "stopped working" error.
I have installed the SlimDX runtime, and have even tried uninstalling/reinstalling it. I've also updated all of my drivers as I saw somewhere on here that it could be related to the audio drivers. I ran it with process monitor, and I do get a bunch of access denied errors related to sound (all related to OpenRegKey), but when running as Administrator I don't see that, but still get the crash.
Any ideas on other things to try?

Try remove and reinstall this
Visual C++ Redistributable 2010

Hello,
Sorry to post on this topic, but I also encounter this problem on NVIL after this update (Windows Creator Update). I also test:
- Compatibility mode
- Admin mode
- Reinstallation of slimdx, vc redistributable and the program itself (under steam)
Nothing to do, it will not start and display the message "stopped working".
-
Did you see the loading image?
-
Yes I see the loading image (the anvil) before the message "stopped working".
I do not know if this is related, but I have the same problem with the Rocket 3F program.
-
Can you check this
Directx9
-
No change, I have the same error, after reinstalling directX 9.
-
Did you see anything else besides the loading image and the "Stop working" message?
-
No, the message (Stopping working) comes just after the loading image. Nothing else.
-
Can you test this debug version?
http://www.digitalfossils.com/Download/NVil-W10 Debug-01.rar
You should see "123" message box and a form behind it. When you close the message box, the app should exit.
I don't have Windows10 so I have to rely on you to find out what is wrong.
-
I just tested your debug version. When I start the program, the loading image is displayed correctly, but there is no change, the message "stop working" is displayed immediately after.
I have no message "123" and no form behind.
However, windows ask me if I want to debug the application it sends me this:
https://tof.cx/images/2017/04/09/7ed889cca3ca2588c9b280d7b1e80f51.jpg
If I open VS2015, it shows me:
An unhandled exception of type 'System.AccessViolationException' occurred in WorkShop.dll
Additional information: Tentative de lecture ou d'écriture de mémoire protégée. Cela indique souvent qu'une autre mémoire est endommagée.
But maybe it has nothing to do with it.
EDIT: A have tested with admin mode and with no admin mode.

This version seems to work, I have no message, no error.
And now, what should I do ? Wait for the update for the steam version ? Replace files directly in folder ?
In any case, thanks for the help.
-
You can replace the files under steam for now. It still needs time to make sure no other issues.
-
I will make a steam version shortly.
-
Well it works but comes the problem of the license, it asks me a key, which the steam version does not have. I will wait for the official update on steam and use the debug version.
Thank :)
-
Here is the Steam version
http://www.digitalfossils.com/Download/NVil-W10-Debug-Steam.rar
You can put the files under your Steam folder.
-
It's work, thank !
