Title: shaded shading for just retopo reference object
Post by: mogul on April 16, 2016, 02:23:13 pm
its really hard when you see your highpoly wireframe when in retopo mode. many software can shaded the high poly only in retopo mode. previously im in maya and can do this but in NVIL i cant find it. im just like NVIL for retopo which  has strong tool like fill jagged border edge, loop tidy, curve loop etc.

Are you able to post a picture from Maya ?

I'm not sure what you mean.

In scene explorer, you can right click on a object and set its render options, does that give you what you want to do ?

Uncheck this option, View > Object Shading > Show Edge On Unselected.

thx for the reply istonia and kevjon

i mean something like this

you can see the highpoly wireframe is hidden (just use shaded).

Istonia

If I set my viewport to wireframe mode.

And try to set the mesh I wish to retopo over to solid or solid gray in scene explorer > render options. Nothing happens, is it broken ?

This would then give mogul the ability to retopo like he shows with Maya

It is not broken. The option you tried to set is about object's face rendering. Since you have set viewport to wireframe, faces are not visible. That's why you cant see the change.

What mogul needed is edges invisible in reference object which is an unselected object.

No worries, I always thought the render options in scene explorer was for setting the display of selected meshes to something other than the viewport display (like a display override). 3DS Max is one 3D app I can think of that has that functionality.

Hi Istonia

I just ran into this very issue of not being able to override the viewport shading for individual objects.

I inserted a image plane, however I cannot see the image in wireframe mode.

Image is presented by faces and faces are not visible in wireframe mode. That's why.

I was illustrating another example where being able to set objects shading independent of the viewport display would be useful, like in moguls original feature request.

and it works with uncheck show edge unselected.

but istonia why the face look more transparent in wire mesh than transparent it self? the first one is object individual shading->transparent and the second image with wire mesh shading

In wire mesh mode, only the edges of the triangle faces are drawn. That's why you see the mesh is completely transparent.

doesnt matter if i see triangle, at least its transparent.

im trying retopo with spline but i have a problem when i set my spline point withs right click it doesnt follow the reference object. is this bug?

and i think if the spline have the feature offset curve in maya it could be help for retopo. create spline-offset-and loft i use this quite a lot in maya + in nvil with interactive fill quads.
maybe after fill quads it can be edit with this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8LuEzXQtrk&index=8&list=PLk--A_D3Rcz0IFQv9Peyy_HC6Hqbrm5Ru (dont mind its too hard i just request for offset spline)

btw istonia. Do you have any plan to support NVIL with b-mesh? i see a lot of people right now crazy with boolean and bevel with NGON. Sub-D its too slow for creating complex hard surface boolean

The right click bug is fixed.

The offset is already available in Retopo Reference List window.

-----------

There is no way I can transplant b-mesh into Nvil.

Sorry but i mean offset spline like this https://sendvid.com/13fndfht

How does it work if the spline is a straight line?
