The following information can be useful to clear things up.
 
Both videos are produced by rubberDuck, an user of NVil. His config files are used. Here is the link to the forum thread for his config files.

In the first post you shall see the download link

Download and unzip it. Then replace all the files in this folder with the downloaded files.
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\DigitalFossils\NVil\User Settings
After that, load NVil and you should have the same UI shown in the videos.

If the application failed to launch and SlimDX is not installed, download/install the CORRECT version of end user runtime(for slimDX) http://slimdx.org/download.php (the .net 4 download) or http://www.digitalfossils.com/Download/SlimDXInstallers.rar

Make sure the correct version of SlimDX is installed.

Here are a few steps to help you to get started quickly.
 
1. File > Open Scene. Import your high-poly model. You may need to check this, Edit > Options > File Format Options, to change import options if the current options are not what you want.
 
2. Open the Scene Explorer window, View > Windows > Scene Explorer Window.
 
3. Make sure you are in object mode, click Selection > Selection Modes > Object Mode. In viewport, click to select the high-poly model.
 
4. In Scene Explorer window, click the "Retopo Reference List" tab to open it. Then click the "Add from Scene selection" button. Now the name of the high-poly model should appear in the "Reference Object" list view. One more thing must do in this window, check the "Retopo mode enabled" option box.
 
5. In viewport, click at empty space to unselect the high-poly model. Now you have a retopo reference object. Retopo reference object must be kept unselected in order you can perform any retopo operations on it.
 
6. Tap "B" key to activate the "Draw Mesh" tool. Now you should be able to draw lines on the surface of the retopo reference object.
 
It maybe worth to mention that the default radial menu RMB activation is enabled in rubberDuck's settings, that means right mouse click will bring up the default radial menu. Some people don't like this. But if you want to follow the tutorial video, you have to use it. After finishing learning from the video, if you wish, you can disable it, View > Tool Helper Options > Radial Menu Options > Default RMB Activation Enabled. You can set hotkey for the radial menu, Edit > Customize > Radial Menus.

The tutorial video was made before some features are added so some good features are missing in the tutorial video.
