Hi, I bought NVil V1.0 about 10 years ago and was active in the days before while it was just starting out. That said, life got in the way and I had not done anything 3D for many years. Now I am back with a project that I need help with. I have downloaded a few "splash" designs for 3D printing and they are nice but too fragile. So I found an image of one that is not for sale unless you buy the finished product which does me no good. So I want to try and modify the obj or stl files of the ones I have to make them stronger. I even bought a file from CGTrader of a chocolate splash but it ended up flat and not usable. That said, if I have the stl or obj files, will I be able to curve the parts upward the way I need to with NVil? If you look at your hand palm facing up but flat and then curl your fingers up that is what I need to do. I added an image of what I want to do. I only need the "splash" and not the saucer under it or the stream connected to it. Would this be able to be made from scratch with NVil? Easily?
Thanks,
Dave

Can you send me a sample splash mesh .obj file, info@digitalfossils.com? I'll see if I can find a way.

Not easily.
Have made a quick attempt in Nvil.
vws file attached.
If you need to thicken, select vertex and use "vertex_normal_move" (by default in vertex mode "H+rmb")

I sent the file 2 times as the first one is a public domain version that is fragile.The second file I sent I purchases but it is too flat and the bottom is not flat either. Thanks for looking into it.

Steve,
  Wow! That looks really good.That is what I am looking for. Maybe need to adjust to make a few varying sizes of the individual spikes but otherwise it's PERFECT. Thanks for posting that. Can I use it?
Thanks,
Dave

@Steve
  After opening it in the slicer I noticed the lets call them fingers, need to be a little more vertical.Like 45 or 60 degrees upwards. How would I change that? A few mods on the thickness that I can handle and some smoothing and I will get it worked out thanks to your excellent work.
Thanks,
Dave

You can use the "Spline Rig"
I have added a simple 3 point spline to each of the 6 fingers.(pic 01, vws attached)
Select the vertex of the finger you want to edit (pic 02)
call tool:- "Geometry -> Common Command n Tools => Spline Rig" Select the spline for that finger, then select the spline vertex and move it to adjust the mesh (pic 03)

Steve,
  Thank you very much for helping me out with this. I appreciate you adding the 3 point spline and modifying the splash. I will check it out in a little while. Great job! Thanks, Dave

This is the way I did it.

Wow! Absolutely amazing what you can do with NVIL when you become good at it. That would have taken me a year to figure out. :) I have made a copy of the video so I can watch it over and over to learn from. I appreciate you taking the time and effort to show me just how powerful NVIL is in the right hands. I can't hardly even believe it. I will be sending an email as I have a question in private.
Thanks,
Dave

@Istonia,
  How did you get your layout set the way you have it in the video. I was trying to make some changes and follow along but my windows toolbars are minimal and nothing like yours in the video.
Thanks,
Dave
edit: I found another noob post and found the kickstart video and reset my user settings.That fixed it. I also had some strange box up in the top left that I couldn't get rid of but that too is now ok. Now maybe I can get somewhere. :)
