Hi

I'm not sure if this is a bug or not but it is unexpected behaviour.

In June 16 release if you set input space to workplane and then go to Edit > Workplane > Align to world XY.

The front ortho view of the workplane does not match my front ortho view when in World navigation space. Instead the front workplane ortho view matches top World ortho view. All the other workplane ortho views are off as well.

If I use world navigation space for the viewport then it works Ok.

When you align the workplane to world XY, the workplane aligns to world XY plane which means workplane space will not be the same as world space. Because in workplane space, X and Z lies inside the workplane.

If you want to have workplane space the same as world space, align it to world ZX plane.

I'm sorry Istonia, I'm still having lots of problems with this.

Can you test by saving a workplane in the workplane list that is at some odd angle.

Then test if what you said works ? I suspect this is where the issue is.

I don't understand what is the problem you described. How did you set this option for the respective viewport?
View > Use World Space Navigation (Selected).

View > Use World Space Navigation (Selected).

No, that was turned off so had the capital WP visible. My workplane is also locked.

I don't have video making capabilities but if you create a simple object with some odd angles on it.

Move the workplane around to different faces that are on odd angles. Then flip through your ortho views of top, left, front etc the ortho view seems to relate to the previous location where the workplane was aligned to.

I suspect that the option is not set.

When you reset scene, File > New Scene, the option will be set to off. When you open a scene, the option will be set according to the scene file.

When the option is on, you should see lower case letters "wp" on viewport top-right corner. Otherwise capital letters "WP".

I have amended my response above as I answered your question incorrectly. It is correct now.

No, there is a bug but I have found out how to solve it.

When you have navigation space set to workplane (Capital WP) and locked

As you move your workplane around to different faces you keep having to hit set navigation space to workplane for the ortho views of that workplane to work correctly even though capital WP is visible.

I still don't understand what the problem is. Can you show it in a series of pictures? step by step.

I may understand what you meant now.

I just try to clarify the behavior a little bit. When you set the workplane space as navigation space, the navigation space will take the copied value of the current workplane space. After that, if you transform the workplane, the navigation space still remain the same unless you fire the set workplane space as navigation space command again.

Yep, that's it.

It would be best that when you align your workplane to new faces on the model the ortho views update automatically.

The fact that it doesn't is what threw me in the initial post.

The automatic way is too hard to implement.

It would be best that when you align your workplane to new faces on the model the ortho views update automatically.

Create composite tools, then use hotkeys or custom buttons.

For simple example.
I created a user window with buttons for all the WP functions I need. For "Align to Selection", I made a composite tool:-
Workplane Tools >> Align Workplane to Selection
View navigation Tools >> Set Navigation Space(Workplane)$

I then added that composite tool to a button, and when used, the WP aligns and all Ortho views auto update.

Hi Istonia, thanks for looking into it. It help me sort out what the issue is.

Steve, thanks very much for the tip, after I created the composite tool you suggested its now giving me the results I am after ! I assigned it to keyboard Shift+Num7 so it is the same as blender which I use also.
