You get some great-looking results Steve.

Hi 3dwizzard,

I still have a lot to learn, both with NVIL and poly_modeling, but I think I am improving, albeit slowly.

I could add more detail, but will finish at this stage. I have learned quite a lot while making this. So worth the time.

wire_frame from NVIL

I made a number of test renders, to check for any possible artifacts/problems. But they look OK. This is one of the test renders:-

Wow, you've been busy. Did you render that in C4D? It looks like C4D render.
Looks very realistic.

Sorry I haven't been watching this more closely.
I was kind of concerned about the hurricane. By the time it got here,
it was reduced to a tropical storm.
Now that the storm is gone. I'm going to make time for VW.

I made an animation of that dynamic dress. I still have a bit more to learn,
but that's a Poser thing.
Here is a link to the animation: https://vimeo.com/52345993

like I said, I still have a lot to learn.

Right now I'm not sure which way to go. I've been thinking about making a pair of boots,
to go with that dress.
I was also thinking about trying to make morphs in Nvil for Poser.

Hi 3dwizzard,

The renders are from [Blender] Cycles.

Good start with the animation. You have certainly got further with animation than I have.

That helmet is fantastic! Nice work! Is that from Fallout?
Cheers,

That helmet is fantastic! Nice work!
Thanks.

Yes. I have made a few models from Fallout, but only(up to now) 2 in NVIL. The other model was Mr Gutsy, thread >here<

Unbelievable, Blender?
That looks like a C4D render. What version did you do it with?
I still use the old version, 249b. I use it for that image sequence. I like the ffmpeg.

The animation didn't really come out the way I wanted it. I was getting a lot of poke through.
So I thought I'd just make the best of it, and hide the character.

Definitely time to migrate! This version is very outdated since a pretty while. And doesn`t get developed anymore :)

Blender started to migrate to a new UI and lots of new functionality with 2.5. This migration was finished with version 2.6 this spring. Now we are at 2.64. This version has still the old Blender internal renderer onboard. But also Cycles.

Cycles is a relative new renderer. It is not really feature complete yet. Brecht, the developer, is still working hard at it. And it may last a pretty while until really everything is integrated, like hair rendering or normalmaping support. But it is already finished enough to create stunning artwork with it. And it is finally a state of the art renderer, which qualitywise doesn`t need to hide behind the commercial renderers out there.

Cycles is a bit unique. It is optimized for animation, while also being useful for stills. But it`s an unbiased renderer. Means it fires rays by coincidence into the scene, and you stop the rendering at one point when the noise isn`t visible anymore. And that is in contradiction to the useage as a renderer for animations. Stills renderer are usually unbiased. Renderers for animations are usually biased because of the rendertimes and the noise. It nevertheless works :)

Hi Tiles,
I know blender started migrating to a new user interface. That's one of the reasons why I stop using it.
I was just getting used to the old interface, and they changed it on me. I tried version 2.56, but it was still kind of buggie.
The only reason I still use version 2.49b is for the ffmpeg. They've never been able to get it to work in the new versions.
Unless there is one out there that I don't know about.

I must say though, that cycles is a nice renderer. That alone is worth another look.
You say it's optimized for animation. Do they have any benchmarks for it?
I was just wondering what the render times were like?

Just downloaded version 2.64a, and found a video tutorial on how to use cycles.
This is going to take a while. Thanks  ;D
