I want to model along a picture. So i`ve setup a plane and have added a texture with my reference image. The problem is, when i set the display to wireframe so that i can model my mesh, then the plane also turns wireframe. And i cannot see my image then anymore.
Is there a way to setup the display modes of the objects individually?

Hey Tiles,
I initially thought I knew the answer to this but the solution isn't so simple. I went:
View > Object Shading > Object Individual Shading > Wire Mesh
But this unfortunately only shows the wireframe triangulated. (at least I can't figure a way to make it show quads.
I've never tried that method before because I set up a hotkey ages ago for:
View > Object Shading > Toggle Transparent/Solid
.. which allows you to see your wireframe backfaces without going completely to wireframe.

Ah, there it is. I have overlooked the individual shading. It`s a bit hidden. In my opinion this individual shading menu should be besides the Object Shading menu item, not inside of it.
Yes, it shows tris. But at least i can switch to wireframe that way, while my reference image stays solid and visible.
Thanks ghib

Hi Tiles,
Did you try using "BGImage Control" "B" to add a background image?
Go into one of the ortho view, tap "B" key, which then brings up the "windows explorer" to find an image. You also then have options to flip the image after loading and setting image opacity. You can then use the standard wire_frame view mode option

But i cannot scale and move the image to fit the mesh. That`s why i prefer to work with a plane

Customize-> Tools-> "BG Image". (Object shortcut tools)
Set a shortcut key for that tool, it allows Movement/Rotation/Scale of BG image.

Hi Tiles,
On checking the BGImage control, there is a redirect to the BG image tool.
So, once you load the image(in one of the fixed ortho views) while in that view, press(hold down) the "B" key again, that will allow the move/rotate/scale of that loaded image.
