I just came from a party (drunk, obviously) and wanted to quickly find out, how the snapping (while extruding ) in maya worked. I haven't used Maya in quite some time (and I did use it professionally for 5 years, but that was more than 4 years ago), but for the life of me, I couldn't get anything done in Maya, because it just wouldn't behave like Nvil. I was randomly hitting on hotkeys, but I wasn't even able to connect two vertices. XD

So, what I'm saying is: kudos, Nvil!
Even though it could greatly improve on UV mapping, for low poly modelling, there doesn't seem to be anything more fitted to do the job.

Mayas snapping is actually more streamlined then Nvil.  With move tool active you just need to middle mouse click and drag on the component you want to snap  (with hotkey pressed)

Nvil has more snapping options and therefore more powerful...but you need to make more clicks so it is a bit slower.

You don't even need to middle click, just hold v and drag the manipulator, or hold x if you want grid snapping.
