different modes aren't taken into account.
Sorry for the long title, my brain is operating at half-speed and I couldn't think of anything better
For instance with polygon bevelling, if I press space once to get the double-sided style, if I then select something else and just press rather than dragging, it does the default style.

I think this was intended as a feature, not as a bug. If I have set a streamline tool with a bevel mode for each mouse button, for example, I can LMB click for chop-off style bevel and RMB click to refine style bevel. What I don't like about it is, that the only difference is the style, and that different amounts & number of segments are not taken into account. So I would want a single click refine bevel with 3 segments by 1.0, and a singele click chop off bevel with no inbetweens by 0.5, for example if that were the last used values for each basic streamline tool.
But what you want is that regardless of the set basic streamline tool, it takes the style that was last used when clicking.
These 2 ideas conflict with each other, but are both valid. And neither of them is the status quo.

But I have different things set to different mouse buttons. I'd expect lmb to repeat whatever it is I did last, and the same for rmb.

I anticipated, that you would have set it up that way. I like that idea, and since one can cycle through the styles while using a streamline tool, this makes perfect sense.
But it might not be the case for everyone.
