I have an old VWS project file, which I believe was saved with several levels of subdivision (Common Modeling Shortcut Tools→Inc/Dec Subdivision#). Because I'm using NVil 32-bit through Wine, and as a result can only utilize a maximum of 3GB of RAM, I am no longer able to open this file without running out of memory available to NVil's 32-bit process.

Is it possible to tell NVil to ignore subdivision level on open/merge and load base meshes only? Or to export objects from VWS file to Wavefront OBJ directly from command line?

Try this
http://www.digitalfossils.com/Download/NVil-Jun-04-20.rar

Edit > Options > File Format Options > vws > Ignore subdivision on loading.
