Hello,
I will post here as I may possibly be missing an option.
When creating an inset, I have always believed(and usually see) that the new edges created are based on the perimeter edge bisectors, rather then being controlled by the edges within the selection.
Let me give an example.
2 polygons, one (left) as single, and one (right) with 2 cuts that intersect 2 corners.
Using "Inset", (on the single uncut polygon) new edges are created calculated from the perimeter bisector angles at the corners. But the polygon with the cuts, rather than new edges being created, at the vertex where the internal edge(s) meet, a new vertex is created and slides down that internal edge which gives a poor result.
What I would normally expect, is for new edges to be created from perimeter on both, giving a result as:-
