NVILL Discussion / Re: Rest/place object on ground

Try this
https://digitalfossils.com/Download/NVil-Oct-23-25-Steam.zip

Object mode > Place On Ground Floor. See if it works in the way you want.

Thanks for that, now my orientation is correct again.

I'm curious why the orientation is flipped about?

It's not a bug. You can use this command to align the object's pivot orientation to world, Geometry > Common Command n Tools > Freeze Object Orientation.

When I try to create a Box within the front orthographic viewport, the box's object orientation is not aligned with the world orientation.
As in X, Y and Z now are different.

Creating the box within Perspective viewport, the Box Object and World orientations are the same.

For practical purposes, i am trying to trace around a Background viewport image in front viewport which I will also manipulate in the other viewports to further define the shape.

I'm not sure if this is a bug or expected behaviour?

Many Thanks.

Thank you,
That makes sense now.

Although I do wonder if a specific command could possibly added in the future that allows the following:
- Pick object (in object mode)
- Run command (Place on ground/Rest on ground)

The object would then be sent so it's base was resting on the grid height of 0 (ground plane).

Many thanks.

I'm a bit unsure how this tool is supposed to work.
I tried messing about with it but it wasn't snapping the shape down to the ground plane/grid lines.

You can use the "Differential Snap" tool.

Is there a rest or place on ground command for objects?

In the case of a Box object, I have been able to work around this by by:
- Go into face mode choosing the bottom face
- Set the pivot position
- Return to object mode
- Zero absolute on Y
- Set pivot position back to object

I might be able to make this work with a streamline tool, though I think this could be useful for nearly all other users.

I realize for a box I can construct it in perspective and have it start from the 'ground plane' but sometimes I might be just messing about with a shape and later want to set it down on the ground-plane.

Many thanks.

Hello
I am looking at this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMFqGodNlno
at 3:23

what is he using to create the flat shapes before extruding?

Also is there a tutorial using the draw mesh? I am bit confused how to do straight lines and end them and when it starts drawing points what to do.

What is the proper way to cut a shape with a spline?

Tnx!
