Title: NVil Update Feb 12 2017
Post by: IStonia on February 13, 2017, 08:29:59 am
New Update

http://www.digitalfossils.com/Download/NVil-Feb-12-17.rar
Prerequisites : If the application failed to launch and SlimDX is not installed, download/install end user runtime(for slimDX) http://slimdx.org/download.php (the .net 4 download)

Summary of changes:

  * Each mesh remember its subdivision level on subdivision toggleing.
  * Geometry > Subdivision > Switch Subdivision Toggling Enabled. If an object's subdivision toggling is not enabled, its subdivision status won't be changed by subdivision operations.
  * Edit > Preference > General > Mesh subdivision polygon warning amount. This is used to prevent high poly from getting subdivided by accident. It will be ignored if its value is 0.
  * Some bug fixings.

Thanks!

--------------------

Note: In this update, the SlimDX dll is included in download. So sperate SlimDX dll download/install should not be needed. But this has not been tested on machines which have not installed SlimDX before. So if you try to launch this version of NVil in a machine without SlimDX installed, success or fail, please let me know.

Hi Istonia!

Thank you very much for these Subdivision improvements!
For me, these new flags/options are really very useful.

Thanks again.

Nvil may fail to start on win7 / Win10, depending on current setup.

Your implimentation of SlimDX is based on DX9 runtime. SlimDX when running on DX9 also (along with DX9 runtime) requires Direct3D 9 Extensions (D3DX9_43.dll). That extension is not included in default win7, I am not sure if Win10 even comes with DX9 runtime by default.
When installing SlimDX, it also installs needed DX runtime/extensions.

Maybe it is time for you to use SlimDX with DX11 ??

Steve, works fine for me on Win10.

It will depend on your current config/setup, what you have installed, and what as been installed.

With Win7 x64, by default, it does have DX9 runtime (it is included with the 8GB of compatibility files it installs). It may be the same for Win 10, but as I do not use Win10(and have no intention to do so), I do not know for sure.
When installing applications that require DX9, they will usually install the runtime and any extensions required. SlimDX installes the base DX9 runtime and the extension needed. If you then uninstall SlimDX, it will only uninstall its own files and leaves DX9/extension installed.
