Title: High DPI
Post by: silent_haven on February 11, 2026, 02:32:58 pm
Please optimize the software for high-DPI displays. High-DPI monitors are common now, and I always have to change the “High DPI scaling override” settings every time you send a new version in an archive. Most new users won’t bother adjusting this on first run — they’ll just uninstall the program within a few minutes.

But that`s not the main problem. Using the “High DPI scaling override” causes edges to appear blurry, which looks unpleasant. It might seem minor, but after spending hours working, the blurriness becomes irritating and negatively affects the modeling workflow. Demonstration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHnwzqVzh-g

I’m using a 32-inch 4K monitor. The issue may be related to my system UI scaling, which is set to 200% (see attached screenshot). I need that scaling for eye comfort, and this problem does not occur in other software I use.

Maybe I miss something

I slightly adjust the GUI scale to avoid using the High DPI scaling override, but some menus still don’t display or behave correctly — for example, they can be misaligned or clipped

Try this and see if it's better.

Thanks for an update. Almost all menus seem to be fixed. Here what I found. Tweaked around but can`t avoid clipping in these parts
Customize Tools menu doesn`t scroll

Can you provide more detail on this?

Try setting this value and see if it can fix the hidden dock panel's caption size.
View > Windows > Appearance > Caption Font.

Try this.

"Move Up" and "Move Down" buttons are added to the "Customize Tools" window. See if you can use them to scroll the tools.

If you click "Move Up" or "Move Down" repeatedly the control keeps cycling infinitely (see screenshot). It’s not a big deal for me since mouse scrolling works — that’s enough for now. Overall the UI could use some modernization in both behavior and visuals; I know that’s a big job, but it would be great to see it updated someday. Thanks for the update — I can scroll now. Sorry for being a bother

So, scroll works for you know? Can you shown in a video so I will be convinced?

That's good!
Can you scroll with the scroll bar as well?
Any idea why it didn't work before?

Yes, I can use the scroll bar. Unfortunately, I have no idea why it didn`t work before. Maybe to have one I need to be a programmer, but I`m just an artist :)

Is the big caption font of the hidden panel fixed yet?

Caption Font settings only make button larger/smaller. But the text in it remains clipped. Besides, somehow I lost shadows on buttons in Visual tool settings. That`s not a big deal so I decided to not write about it here

It is intended to remove button shadows for flat looking.

Ah, okay.
Here is an example of how scaling works in my UI

Can't see a way to fix this. It is a third party software.

I don`t understand. Then how do you keep the software updating? :)

Try this. I have done something about the numeric up/down spinner. See if it works on your side.

Try launch Nvil through Steam interface. After that, try launch this new version.

Forgot the 3-day rule, sorry. Spinners are good now, thanks

With black spinners you reminded me about this. Maybe it is possible to make these fields inverted with dark theme like this (screenshot)? Where is no dark theme in any software that uses white color in it, it is always in grays/blacks because overwise it distracts eyes :)
If there is no fast solution then nevermind

It would be a nice feature to add to NVil if the user could customize the colors of the interface and the text.
The existing themes in NVil are very dated have a windows 95 and XP look to them.

Try this
https://digitalfossils.com/Download/NVil-Feb-18-26-Steam.zip

Check this option then restart Nvil, Edit > Preference > Colors > Form Color Scheme > Is Dark Scheme.

Also you will see new button style in "Visual Tools" window. The colors are customizable, Edit > Preference > Colors > Visual Tool Button.

Great! Now it is waaay better. Also the new button style and it`s customization is lovely, thank you so much. The only thing I noticed, this fields should be customizable too. If you fix that, it will be perfect, but the ui is still way better now as it was

That`s fine. Thank you for your efforts, my eyes are already feel better :)
Then I launch this version it asks for registration key. I opened Nvil in Steam, then again launched this version, but nothing changed
