Is there a rest or place on ground command for objects?
In the case of a Box object, I have been able to work around this by by:
- Go into face mode choosing the bottom face
- Set the pivot position
- Return to object mode
- Zero absolute on Y
- Set pivot position back to object
I might be able to make this work with a streamline tool, though I think this could be useful for nearly all other users.
I realize for a box I can construct it in perspective and have it start from the 'ground plane' but sometimes I might be just messing about with a shape and later want to set it down on the ground-plane.
Many thanks.

You can use the "Differential Snap" tool.

I'm a bit unsure how this tool is supposed to work.
I tried messing about with it but it wasn't snapping the shape down to the ground plane/grid lines.

Thank you,
That makes sense now.
Although I do wonder if a specific command could possibly added in the future that allows the following:
- Pick object (in object mode)
- Run command (Place on ground/Rest on ground)
The object would then be sent so it's base was resting on the grid height of 0 (ground plane).
Many thanks.

Object mode > Place On Ground Floor. See if it works in the way you want.

This works great for a single un-grouped object :-)
It does however seem to leave behind any child objects on my testing.
I admit, I didn't even think of considering child objects when I made this request.
Many thanks again.

How do you define child objects?
-
Objects that are nested within the hierarchy and when I had the move with parent group object checkbox ticked.
-
Do you want them all placed on the ground or they need to maintain height position related to the parent?
-
Keeping their height relationships to each other would be great.
Say it was a character model with body parts positioned correctly, running the place on ground plane command on the character model would bring the entire model down so the feet would be touching the ground plane.
The other body parts would move down and stay in their correct positions relative to the character.
Not all be placed on the ground as body parts would need to be repositioned.
Thanks again

That works great, again, many thanks!

I gave this a shot on the steam version that just released a few days ago and found that I might not have tested one scenario initially.
When child objects are placed underneath (as in Y coordinate is lower) the parent object. It sends the lower objects underneath the floor.
I tried the test version sent in this post (the last one) and found that it behaves the same.
It did place the child objects in the relative correct position though.
Maybe there needs to be an option of place lowest child in group on ground VS place selected item on ground?
Sorry I didn't test this outcome previously :-(
I have attached an image to illustrate further.

If you want to place it on a different high level instead of the ground floor, you can use Work Plane to achieve that.

Yes that's got it.
Thank you again! :-)
