When i select two faces and choose loop select from the selection menu then it selects the faceloop. When i select an edge and choose loop select from the selection menu then it selects the edgeloop.
I´ve created a custom toolbar with a loop select button at it. See shot. When i select an edge then it selects the edgeloop as it should. But when i select two neighbour faces and click this button, then it doesn`t select the faceloop.
Are the commands different in the menu and in the customize tools panel?

The edgeloop and faceloop are 2 different commands. (one in edge tools one in poly tools.)
The menus are adaptive, so the tools change depending on which sub_object mode you are in.
In the custom toolbars, there is an option for the groups, which can be set to make the group visible for a specific sub_object type.

Can you show me the menu command you used? The command you used in the button is Edge Shortcut Tools so can only work on edges.
By the way why you need to create a button for this tool. It is too slow. You can just use the double click methods. See Help > Contents > Modeling > Selection Tools.

I see. That`s indeed it. Thanks :)
- there is a Loop select in the Polygon Shortcut Tools section.
- there is a Loop select in the Edge Shortcut Tools section.
I´ve used the one from the Edge Shortcut Tools section.. I`ce created a second button with the Loop select command from the Polygon Shortcut Tools section now. And now i can select my faceloop by button.
I can also hide or show button groups by mode. I guess i have to make a individual menu for every mode then. Riddle solved :)
Hm, one funny thing remains. It sometimes selects the surrounding edges when i select two faces and hit my custom button for selecting a edgeloop. I guess this conflicts with the mode. I´m in face mode, and i use a edge tool that shouldn`t be used in this mode.

See one of the screenshots. It`s the one from the Edge Shortcut Tools section.

Yes. Now that i know that you can use double click i can also use that method. A visual reminder doesn`t hurt though. That i started with the loop select tools was a bit of a coincidence. I needed something to play around with to find out how the new menu feature works :)

kinda confused why you would want to loop select with customized buttons as opposed to double lmb click for loop and double mmb clikc for ring.
just seems like a lot of time wasted moveing the mouse around when there already is a fast mouse drivven shortcut to those to very common selection operations.

As told, this one was some kind of coincindence. I simply needed a example tool to toy around with the new toolbars.
Besides that, why use a GUI at all? You can make hotkeys for everything. The reason is simple: a graphical Ui is simply easier to handle. Even when it takes more time to use buttons. Buttons can have tooltips that can remind you of the function. They have a graphical interface and a fixed location that can be remembered. Both things that don`t work with hotkeys.
