Title: Weld- Threshold (Fixed)
Post by: steve on August 01, 2012, 12:52:56 am
Hi IStonia,

When welding multiple vertex using a Threshold distance, not all vertex selected within that distance are welded together.

A simple example:-

16 vertex selected, max distance(across diameter) = 6 units.

I have set various threshold distances, even set at 10,000 units, but on weld, it only welds a small number of vertex.

Press weld again, and:-

In that example, it took 7 welds to weld all vertex together.

Should it not weld all vertex together that are within Threshold distance on first weld?

If I set "Ignore threshold", then it does weld all vertex together.

Regards,

-Steve

Hi IStonia,

Unfortunately the fix as brought in a different bug.

Prior to the fix, I could weld multiple vertex that spanned a gap using "Threshold" or "Ignore threshold". But now can only weld 2 vertex at once (unless they are connected by edge).

Simple example:-

Single object/mesh with missing section down center line.

With all vertex(running along the 2 edges to weld) selected, with "Threshold" set for distance across gap, no weld is made. If "Threshold" distance is large enough, or "Ignore threshold" is active, then all vertex connected by an edge will weld, but will not weld across the gap. Vertex across gap will weld if only 2 vertex are selected.

You can use this, vertex mode > Geometry > Weld To Nearest.

OK, thank you.

You can use this, vertex mode > Geometry > Weld To Nearest.

That does not have a good work-flow when welding 2 meshes with overlapping vertex. When selecting the vertex, there is a need to use MMB (raycast)select, to select the overlapping vertex. That can then easily cause vertex selection on opposite side of model, So a need to either start checking to de-select those vertex, or having to move view inside model so to select outward.

I preferred the buggy version of weld. At least with that, I could select all vertex, set tolerance, and vertex not connected by edge would weld.

New option added.
