Title: reference images a regular planes
Post by: polyxo on May 10, 2015, 10:06:14 am
I usually find simple planes with images mapped onto more flexible to use than static background images in ortho viewports.

Therefore I found nice if one could simply drag and drop images into the viewport. Nvil would read the pixel size and creates a single mesh face with that aspect ratio in the currenty active viewport. A material with the image name is automatically generated too. These planes were normal scene members, one could move them around, lock them etc. It would be cool if alpha transparency was respected, see example.

Have you looked at "Plane > Create with Image"?
It creates plane with correct aspect, image on plane, and material in material editor.

I think the post was more pertaining to being able to drag and drop images and for the image plane to automatically be created.

I have to admit that I (re)discovered the Image option right after posting...
Drag and drop would be even nicer, maybe it was also possible add Transpareny support?

+1 from me. Anything that makes it easy would be welcome addition.

Steve, I can't find this in Tool Search or the menus

Any hints ?

Hi Kevjon,

Geometry(menu) > Create > "Open Plane Tools"
Object Shortcut Tools > "Open Plane Tools".

The option is at the bottom of the "Plane" window.(see attached Pic)
