I would like support for loop and ring select to have "select edges between".
In orther words, if you have 2 edges selected, it will select the edge loop/ring of the shortest distance between the 2 selections. If a single edge is selected, it will select the entire loop/ring.
Currently this is hardcoded with a single edgeloop, but does not work with edge rings or multiple selections or any kind of hotkey support.
-
Some of the selection methods are already there, they are just, IMHO, a bit over complicated due to the need for various mouse click combinations.
Have a look in the help file:- "Modeling > Selection Tools"
-
it's there already, works maya style.
select a edge, than double click a other edge in the same loop, and it will do a loop selection between the 2 edges, the same thing works for face loops as well.
if you double click with mmb the same concept works for rings as well.
-
but not for a hotkey or? I know the lmb method, but in the event that you need to select multiple edge loops, it requires a hotkey.
-
don't know what it is off hand but there is a command there, I have it as part of my marking menu.
-
The tools are improved to include the gap selection feature.

I would of preferred what was requested, as that would of been (IMHO) a better improvement.

It's been changed.

Thank you IStonia.

Hi Mason,
I would like support for loop and ring select to have "select edges between".
In orther words, if you have 2 edges selected, it will select the edge loop/ring of the shortest distance between the 2 selections. If a single edge is selected, it will select the entire loop/ring.
IStonia has now made the functions work as you requested.
Default hotkeys are:- L (loop select) and H (ring select).
If you want to change the hot-keys, go to
"Edit > Customize > Tools > Steamline Engine Tools > Ring Select Edges"
"Edit > Customize > Tools > Subobject Shortcut Tools > Loop Select"

Oh, man - this is a fantastic tool! For the record, when I started from a new profile, this "Loop Select" tool was unbound by default.
Anyhow, here is how I integrate it with my default Loop Select/Slide Streamline Tool without taking up another (precious) hotkey:
1. Edit > Customise > Streamline Tools > "G Tools Folder" > "Loop Select / Slide Edges" Streamline Tool
2. Find the "On Tapped" Event Action, click "Set", and choose "Subobject Shortcut Tools" > "Loop Select"
3. Click "Ok", then "Apply"
Now all you have to do in Edge Mode is select an Edge/Edge(s)/Edge Range/ or Multiple Edge Ranges and Tap G to select the loops. Since this is the same default key that already controls Loop Slide/Selection in Edge Mode, and since it has no NMB function assigned to it by default, this is a great little combo!

*REQUEST*
Since this "Loop Select" tool is a Subobject Shortcut Tool and not an Edge Shortcut Tool, could you please further enhance its functionality so that it behaves the same way in Polygon and Vertex Subobject Modes as it currently does in Edge Mode? (In Polygon and Vertex Mode, it can currently only select an entire loop and not a range, as it can in Edge Mode).
-
if only there was a "you rock Istonia" icon here.
This simple little feature is probably the most used form of edge selection for me...(hundreds of times a day)

The "Loop Select" tools on vertex/polygon mode has been improved as required.

Well done! Defo going to be one of my primary tools going forward.
