Title: drag select and multi-selection bug

It's something that's bothered me for a while now, but I never realised what caused it.

When you drag-select in multi-selection, if you release over a face it will always go into face-mode and select that. That's not the only issue though, it appears to be much more random than that. I'm attaching a gif to show you:
