IStionia can you pleas make Autosmooth All, command?
Now I use composite tool:
But when I make Undo it makes 2 steps, first do not know what it is and second, it selects all...
I wanted to bind this command to Alt to make it work every time I started rotate viewport, becouse I need it automaticly when work with hard surfaces. But that extra undo steps do not allow me to do it.
Other aps like Cinema 4D or Softimage make it automatically you just set angle in object properties.

They automatically create smooth groups? or, are you referring to "Smooth shading"
-
steve,
Looks like there is no any smooth groups not in C4D nor in Softimage.
But working with these smooth groups is really hard, you have to by hands everytime set hard edges.
In oposite in that softwares everything is automated. We can go near to this if we will have Autosmooth all and bind it to some hotkey we we use frequently.
-
Smooth group is only one of the two ways to set hard/soft edges. The other way is to select the edges, then, edge mode > Soften/Harden Selected.
In NVil, hard/soft edges are not bound/linked to smooth group. Smooth groups are used to set hard/soft edges, just like you use any of the tools to create a geometry and the program does not remember which tool is used.
You can change your composite tool to use the smooth tool in edge mode.

"You can change your composite tool to use the smooth tool in edge mode."
Сan you explain what you mean?
-
Something like this:
Subobject Tools >> Save Current Subobject Selection
Common Modeling Shortcut Tools >> Save Selection Mode
Common Modeling Shortcut Tools >> Switch To Edge Mode
Composite Tools >> Select all
Edge Shortcut Tools >> Soften Selected
Common Modeling Shortcut Tools > Restore Selection Mode
Subobject Shortcut Tools >> Paste Saved Subobject Selection
-
Something like this:
Subobject Tools >> Save Current Subobject Selection
Common Modeling Shortcut Tools >> Save Selection Mode
Common Modeling Shortcut Tools >> Switch To Edge Mode
Composite Tools >> Select all
Edge Shortcut Tools >> Soften Selected
Common Modeling Shortcut Tools > Restore Selection Mode
Subobject Shortcut Tools >> Paste Saved Subobject Selection
Easier to use "Smooth All", which can be called from any selection mode, however, samardac is looking to set hard edges, not remove them all.
If working with just hard_edges, then we would need at least a "P_Select_Crease_edges{angle}"
-
At this situation I found some solution when working with hard surfaces I use this tools:
But would be great to have it automatically set hard edges when they rich some angle. I do not mind what it will be smooth groups or hard esges or some smooth shading. All I need is to render show them right.
-
Check this video I just made, see how hard edges changing automatically when angle changes.

This is the settings of this:

You set it per object.
In C4D it is called Phong tag and work the same way.

Try this

* Edit > Customize > Tools > Common Modeling Shortcut Tools > P_AutoSmooth_Whole.

Many thanks!!!
But how that angle works? I'm used to set for example 30 degree, but here i have to set about 160 to have the same result.
-
Now I bind it to Alt so it works automaticly, tell me pleas is it not influence on performance?

The tool appears to be using "crease edge" selection.
The tool does not create smooth groups, but selects edges based on crease edges and sets them as hard.
Example:- Where you would set to 30 for smooth groups, set as 150 for crease edge. (180 - smooth angle)
Thank you IStonia, much better than adding smooth groups.
-
Thanks Steve, got it.
IStonia want to say you big thanx once again. Previously If I worked with subD I set Sharp Edges ON, to not to see that ugly smoothing. But now I set smooth whole to Alt and turn Sharp edge Off. Works really good!
-
If you assign it to Alt, you may have performance issue if the geometry gets too dense.
-
Good, IStonia is it possible to make this:
If you assigned hard edge by hands(smooth/hard) this Autosmooth Whole tool, will not affect this edge?
-
Why when I Autosmooth this, it creates this hard edges?
