Post by: samardac on March 15, 2014, 08:42:12 am
I just would like to have this feature:
When subd is off sharp eadges is on and whe subd is on sharp edges is off.
I tried to make composite tool but it not work very well when you have to swetch between objects.

Just the display of hard edges?  Streamline tool might have enough options.

Mason,
I want when I toggle SubD ON, Sharp edges tourn OFF. ANd vice versa.
I like to work with sharp edges but whe I tourn subd ON Model looks not good, so I need to tourn Sharp Edges OFF. And I want this process to be automatic.

You asked about this (http://voidworld.cmcproductions.co.uk/index.php?topic=2228.0) in the help forum, I asked for more info but you did not reply.

Do I guess that when you refer to "Sharp" edges, you just mean the display?

I have made a composite tool that will:-

With object(s) selected, you call composite:-

It gives all selected objects sub_d with smooth edges and all other(not selected) objects sharp edge with no sub_d

Example:-

The selected object as smooth display edges with sub_d(level 2). All other object, no sub_d with sharp display edges.

Select different object

use composite tool
Selected object smooth display with sub_d. All other objects no sub_d with sharp edge display.

With 2 objects selected

After calling composite:

Is that what you are looking for?

Yes, I updated the pics to better show what was happening.

I have now made a composite to turn off all sub_d and make all objects with sharp_display_edges.

The way the composite tools work, is to make sure there is no conflict with anything that may already be dub_d or sharp edges etc.

Please try them, if any problems please post details so I can make any needed changes.

Composite tools attached at bottom of post. Download them, then in Nvil use the "Composite Tools > Import Composite Tools"

Just befor I download, is it way to make it toggle? Just to have one tool not two?

Attempting to make it toggle will cause conflict, as you have found with the toggle commands you used in your composite.

Make hotkeys, with, for example {hotkey} = Sub_d_on and Shift+{hotkey} = sub_d_off
Or
Make user button, with LMB for on and RMB for off.

I also forgot, currently those tools only work correctly in object selection mode. I can change them if needed to work in all selection modes.

Import the xml files in the "Composite tools > Import Composite tools"

Also I just notice that when I subdevide one object another unsobdevided. Looks like it is wrong. I need it to not affect already subdevided objects. Just to work like regular subd.

I thought you only wanted one object to have sub_d.

I have changed them. Only selected objects will now be affected. They work in all selection modes.

Thank you very much! Everything is working.
Just wanted to suggest to IStonia to make some check box in prefferences - Tourn off Sharp edges when SubD is ON.

Hi Samardac,

You are welcome.

Those tools should be OK for now. Maybe IStonia will add an option if he can find time?.

One option I forgot to mention for adding hotkey, was to add those composite tools into a steamline tool. You could have sub_d on with "Tapped" (tap the hotkey), and sub_d off with delay(keep hotkey pressed for amount of time you set in preference. )

Darcvizer, да я спросил как сделать композит тул, что бы когда включаеш сабД шарп эдж выключался.
Вроде разрулили.

steve, thanks again, nice solution I set delay to 0.20 sec and it works good :)

Test this version. It turns off sharp edges in subd mesh. I will make an option if it works in the way you want.

IStonia,
Also is it possible to alwas tourn sharp edges on. For example if I create new object, sharp edges automaticly tourned off. And I have to tourn it on again.
