How and under what mode does the Align at Edge tool work?
-
Which group does it belong to?
-
View navigation tools. Bravery test: it should be fully functional in all modes.
It just does nothing. I have no clue how this tool is meant to work nor what it really does. The name and description says it aligns to an edge. But how? :)
The description is confusing:
If there is highlighted edge, it will be used. Otherwise if there is only one selected edge, it will be used.
How do i highlight or select an edge in object mode? And how do i align an object at this edge then? The moment when i touch the object is the moment when the edge dehilights.

The full name of the tool must be "Align Along An Edge". It adjusts the current view port camera's position and direction. If you want to use highlighted edge, you need to fire this tool from either Radial menu or Streamline tool or tranditional hotkey, because you need to keep the cursor inside the viewport to highlight an edge.
Since it works on edges, it works in edge mode.

Thanks a bunch. I guess this means i have to kick this tool from the user buttons then :)
Since it works on edges, it works in edge mode.
Mh, i thought that all tools in the same group has usually the same mode? Align along an edge is placed in the View navigation Tools at the moment. Which are accessible from all modes. Shouldn`t it be better placed in the Edge shortcut tools then?

I don't think so. It is more view related than edge related.

That`s a point :)
But this leads me back to the question how i can see in which mode a tool should be available and in wich not. The rule that one group is available in specific modes seems to have some exceptions.

Well, have to make this one an exeption. If I put it to edge group, people may think it is an mesh tool and no one will look for view tools in edge group tool.

I see. Thanks :)
